Baltimore police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a shooting near Lexington Market that left one person injured and sparked concern in the downtown area over the weekend. Authorities confirmed the arrest Monday as investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the violent incident.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, officers responded around 11:21 a.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of North Eutaw Street near the Lexington Market district. When officers arrived, they located a 30-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel provided assistance before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators later determined that the shooting itself had occurred nearby in the 300 block of Marion Street. Police said detectives quickly launched an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the gunfire and worked to identify the suspect involved.
Authorities subsequently identified the suspect as Antonio Chase of Baltimore. Police confirmed Monday that the 32-year-old had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Officials have not yet publicly disclosed a possible motive behind the incident or clarified whether the suspect and victim knew each other prior to the shooting.
The shooting near Lexington Market drew attention because of the areaโs heavy daytime foot traffic and its significance as one of downtown Baltimoreโs busiest commercial and transit corridors. Community members and local business owners have continued expressing concerns about violent crime incidents occurring near busy public areas frequented by commuters, workers, and visitors.
As detectives continue gathering evidence, authorities are expected to review surveillance footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence connected to the case. Police have not yet publicly announced the full list of charges Antonio Chase may face as the investigation remains ongoing.
The condition of the injured victim has not been fully updated publicly, though police indicated the individual survived the shooting. Investigators are continuing to encourage anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Baltimore police or Metro Crime Stoppers.
